Education FLEX "Flexible Seating"
Flexible Seating has made such a difference in my classroom. Flexible seating allows students to have a choice on the type of seating that works best for them. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, this has been found to increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. Flexible seating also allows the student to burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also their young minds alert and focused. Flex Seating also allows comfortable seats.
At the start of adding this change to my class I did have to explain how, why and when we are allowed to use flex seating. This was not hard to do since I explained to my students about my own learning disability that cause me to find out how I learn best. My students have come to learn that flexible seating is a tool they can use to help find their own comfort level. So the first few weeks of school I did not add this to my class. I also started with adding simple things fist the wobble seats and the standing desk. In the reading center is where I added the bean bags until moving them to my small group table. Last was the ball chair, I was scared when I first brought them to class but my students surprise me and adjusted very well to them. I have found that my students are more engaged when using the seating. I have introduce only 4 types of seating.
The Types I Have Used
1. Bean Bags
2. Wobble Seat
3. Ball Chair
4. Standing Desk
